Schar Gluten-Free Ciabatta Rolls Review
This is the Best Gluten-Free Bread We've Ever Had

I don't know exactly when Costco started selling Schar's gluten-free Ciabatta Rolls in our area, but they had an entire pallet of them a few weeks back when we decided to check and see if they sold any gluten-free bread.

For years, Costco has been selling Udi's brand sandwich style bread in the frozen food section, which we don't like very well, so we've just never checked back.

That was our loss because Costco is now selling both Schar Artisan Baker Gluten-Free White Bread and Canyon Bakehouse Multigrain Bread in a shelf-stable 2-pack. More importantly, they are also selling Schar Gluten-Free Ciabatta Rolls.

Udi's brand breads are no where to be seen!

Not even in the freezer.

I was a bit hesitant when hubby picked up the bag of Ciabatta rolls, but he enticed me to feel how soft the rolls were in the bag.

“Do you want to try them?” he asked excitedly. "Look how soft they are!"

Since I'm super sensitive to whole grains, fiber, and oatmeal, as well as gluten, I carefully checked the ingredients:

Cornstarch, water, corn flour, rice flour, psyllium seed husk (vegetable fiber), dextrose, modified cellulose, soy protein, sunflower oil, yeast, salt, tartaric acid, citric acid.

No sorghum and no oats.

It's been awhile since I tried eating things with psyllium husks, so I agreed. Let's try them.

Gluten-Free Certification Status for Schar's Ciabatta Rolls

Schar is a company that has been in business for decades. Exclusively gluten free since 2006, they work with farmers who grow certified gluten-free grains just for them. The ingredients are tested before they come into their 100 percent gluten-free facility and then the product is tested regularly once the product is ready.

Their certification is coming from the UK Coeliac Society, which certifies their products to contain less than 20 ppm of gluten. That's higher than other certification organizations, here in the U.S., but Schar has a much tighter goal for themselves than that.

They aim for less 5 ppm.

Our Experience with Gluten-Free Ciabatta Rolls

These square-shaped soft-and-fluffy dinner rolls are super soft and labeled partially baked. Instructions say to heat them up at 400 degrees for 6 to 10 minutes, for a fresh-out-of-the-oven taste; but we didn't do that.

We wanted to know how they would be right out of the package.

We are always looking for new ideas for traveling.

These ciabatta rolls do not crumble or fall apart at all. They hold up extremely well for burgers, salmon patties, and sandwiches.

The taste is awesome!

They are just like homemade rolls.

These rolls are egg free and dairy free, if you need them to be. Plus, they do not have to be toasted or heated up first like most gluten-free brands do. They are great right out of the package, and remain fresh and soft for several days on the counter.

Sandwiches hold up well to being prepared in the morning, before work or an outing, and not eaten until lunch time. There is no texture change or sogginess after sitting around for several hours like my homemade buns do.

These are great for traveling or short-term activities like taking a picnic lunch to the zoo or park.

They also freeze well.

Where Can You Buy Schar Gluten-Free Ciabatta Rolls?

We first picked them up from Costco. They were a double package, so we got 8 good-sized rolls for $6.99. Over the past couple of weeks, I've seen smaller packages of 4 at our local Neighborhood Walmart for less than 5 bucks.

They are also available online at Amazon and Vitacost. Since they're in shelf-stable packaging, they are good until the “best before” date, so they will hold up well during shipping.
